Melting Memories

Why is memory so precious? Because it holds the key to our humanity: the bridges to our culture, our past, and our very identity. Here, the sparks of cognition – memories – emerge in a data sculpture that translates the science of thought into art. This visualization is derived from a data set of brain scans of Alzheimer’s patients. However, the piece does not focus on what’s been lost. Instead, what’s depicted are the moments when a spark of memory occurs.

A CLOSER LOOK

A vision of recollection. Imagine that! Melting Memories did – arriving at the intersection of advanced technology and contemporary art. When it debuted in the AT&T Discovery District, this was the largest, highest resolution outdoor display of Refik Anadol’s world-renowned art.
